Fire and Life Safety Code Consultant

Jigsaw Life Safety, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Code Consultant. This position provides the opportunity to work on a variety of projects involving building code analysis, life safety consulting, fire protection coordination, and regulatory compliance within a collaborative and fast-paced consulting environment.

At Jigsaw Life Safety, Code Consultants work alongside experienced engineers and consultants to support clients through all phases of design, construction, and occupancy while helping create safer buildings and communities. This role offers hands-on experience with building and fire code consulting, life safety evaluations, permitting support, and interdisciplinary project coordination.

This position is ideal for individuals with strong analytical and communication skills who are interested in building codes, fire and life safety systems, and consulting within the built environment.

What You’ll Do

As a code consultant at Jigsaw Life Safety, you may assist with:

  • Conducting building, fire, and life safety code analyses for new and existing buildings
  • Reviewing architectural and engineering plans for code compliance
  • Preparing life safety plans, code summaries, and technical reports
  • Assisting with permitting and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) coordination
  • Supporting fire protection and life safety consulting projects across various industries
  • Researching applicable building, fire, accessibility, and life safety codes and standards
  • Collaborating with project teams, clients, architects, and contractors
  • Participating in project meetings, site visits, and field observations
  • Assisting with inspections and evaluations of fire protection and life safety systems
  • Supporting engineering analyses and project documentation
  • Preparing presentations, reports, and project deliverables
  • Learning industry standards, consulting practices, and regulatory processes

What We’re Looking For

Qualified candidates should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in building codes, fire protection systems, and life safety consulting  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities  
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment  
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and willingness to learn

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Prior consulting, design, construction, or code compliance experience  
  • Familiarity with the International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC), NFPA standards, and related codes and standards  
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or Bluebeam Revu  
  • Experience reviewing construction documents and technical drawings
  • Interest in fire protection engineering, life safety systems, and regulatory consulting
